Crowberry or black crowberry (Empetrum nigrum)

Crowberry grows on dry forest soil, pine swamps and mountains between July and September. Northern subspecies (E. nigrum hermaphroditum) has bigger berries and better crop.

The Lapps have traditionally used a lot of crowberry. Nowadays juice and jam producers use crowberry as extender of blueberry and also as a colouring agent.

Crowberry has vitamin C almost twice as much as blueberry
